The kiwi was originally known as “Chinese gooseberry”, as it was cultivated in China for centuries. In the 1950s, when exports from New Zealand began, it was renamed “kiwifruit” after the country’s national bird.
Nowadays, the kiwi is grown in many European countries and it is one of the most popular fruits worldwide.
Kiwis can be used in marinades for added flavour, helping to tenderize meat when used for a short period of time.
